We’ve been doing a little bit of decorating this week and the current task is the dining room floor. Yesterday Jane hired a sander to remove the old varnish and before bed we put the first coat on. This morning I’ve applied a second coat and am now camped out in the living room while it dries; after cleaning the brushes I came round and climbed in through the front window which I’d left open for that purpose (discovering that the rose bushes outside are definitely a major obstacle to such operations!).
The only problem was that it was just me doing the varnishing this morning, so it took twice as long and, consequently, I had twice as long exposed to the fumes! Maybe next time I can get a 6″ brush and double my painting rate? I can’t wait until this phase of decorating is over but at least we’ll have a nice shiny floor to show for it!
