Having renamed one of my categories yesterday, I feel that I ought to post something new in it today. One thing I came across recently that struck me as an interesting observation related to Christian faith was what John Frye calls “The Jesus Question“:
What do you want me to do for you?
That is a question that Jesus asked on several occasions. The answer says a lot about the heart of the person who gives it. John was prompted to reflect on the current phase of the US election. What kind of result are American Christians praying for? Are they looking for a leader who will champion justice and mercy or one who will bring at least the promise of earthly security and prosperity? What does it say about their picture of God and the state of their faith?
And, following on from that, what kind of things do I pray for? What do I ask for or not bother to pray about? Hmmnnn….
