The Gherkin

Last Saturday I reached the literal height of my playing career with a Pico Brown Five gig at the top of London’s “Gherkin” (or 30 St Mary Axe as it is more officially known).

To be honest, I did not think it was our best sounding gig. Tom, the sax player, loved the reverb from the marble floor and curved glass walls but it did not bring out the best of the other instruments. We played well but it took a lot of concentration.

However, as expected, the view was stunning. What struck me most was not seeing landmarks like Tower Bridge shrunk to tiny dimensions but the fact that London continued further than the eye could see in every direction! It is a shame I was so laden with musical gear that I couldn’t squeeze in my camera.
