I was digging through my “blogfodder” collection this morning seeking inspriration for a quick post and discovered an article from early 2007 suggesting that iTunes is good for the environment. That reminded me of a recent discussion on Steve Lawson’s group blog about “the death of CD”.
Digital distribution and storage of media certainly makes all sorts of environmental savings. On the other hand it isn’t helping quite so much if it continues to drive us to buy stuff we don’t need and listen to only once or twice before forgetting it.
I do like being able to store a large part of my music collection on a small hard drive but I wonder how many of those songs are ones I will never listen to again?
