Sigvart Dagsland

Last week I was talking about my discovery of Terje Rypdal; a couple of days ago, I discovered another Norwegian who’s music I enjoy — Sigvart Dagsland.

The serendipitous path that led to this discovery started with looking up some ideas on hymns for some friends who are getting married later this year. From there, I started looking around for places to listen to hymns and searched for that word on Spotify, which led to an album by Dagland of that name. After some listening (including a cool version of The Water is Wide) I explored some of his other work; if I had to characterise him in terms of an artist more widely known in the UK, I would probably pick Sting, for the voice and jazz-pop quality of the arrangements.
