I saw an interesting article on New Scientist recently entitled “Pee is for power: Your electrifying excretions“. It outlines some recent advances in using urine as a source of energy. And why not? There is not better way to reduce waste than to redefine it as something useful.
It might be a while before this technology is widely available. In the meanwhile I will continue with my existing re-use strategy, collecting a good proportion of this high-nitrogen liquid gold to apply to the compost heap as what Bob Flowerdew dubbed “Personally Initiated Soil Stimulant” (see Bob Flowerdew’s Complete Book of Companion Gardening).
