The male blackbirds in our area are starting to compete with each other for the attention of the females. This afternoon we were watching two “boys” trying to catch the eye of one “girl”.
There are two results for us as spectators. One is that we see lots of acrobatic flying, as they swoop around the garden and in and out of bushes. The other is that the birds seem a lot bolder. Working in the garden was not enough to put them off and they would quite happily show their courage by not flying off even when we came almost close enough to touch them.
It is just a shame I had fingers too grubby to be carrying my camera around otherwise I could have got some great shots!
