The kitchen is completely empty, even down to a bare concrete floor. It became obvious, as soon as we took the old vinyl floor out, just how much damping effect it had on the sound of the room. Every sound was magnified as it bounced from wall to floor to wall.
This will probably be the last time we experience it like this. The new floor covering sits on a layer of latex, has a subtly textured surface (to help avoid slips) and will be glued into place; it should last for years and I anticipate that it will put quite a damper on the sound of the room. That is why I was down there at quarter to seven this morning, doing a quick spot of bass practise. Would you like reverb with that, Sir? Oh, yes please!
