The weather outside is still very wintry but it has definitely reached the point to start thinking about tomatoes for the polytunnel later this year. This afternoon I’ve started seeds from five varieties in an indoor container. Two are from commercial packets (‘Tigrella’ and ‘Gourmet’), while the others are seed saved from last year’s crop (‘Red Cherry’, ‘Legend Bush’ and ‘Legend Bush – pointy’). The latter is from a plant that produced attactively pointed fruit; I want to see if that will be reproduced in the next generation or if it was a one-off mutation.
With about 20 of each variety, we should have ample both for our polytunnel and to give away. First though, I need to wait and see if they germinate.
