Ukes at the Ready

Ukulele gig day today for me and Jane. This lunchtime we join our friends in the work-based group, jUkebox, to entertain colleagues at the staff Christmas market. This should be a fairly easy gig; certainly one we’ve done a decent amount of practise for.

I feel less prepared for the panto rehearsal in the evening but I was able to listen back to my recordings and do a bit of playing along with them yesterday evening; hopefully my years of experience will pay off. At least the rest of the band (and cast) seem a friendly crowd so, especially since I’ve got a set of music (albeit some in fairly sketchy form) it should be in my range of buskability and, if nothing else, will see me better prepared for my two performances depping in the bass chair on Saturday.

Heh – presumably, you’ll have seen the Ukelele orchestra? Most amusing!

Indeedy! I remember the jaw dropping moment when I heard them perform Wuthering Heights on the radio.

In other news (and a completely different genre) – have you come across Public Service Broadcasting yet? Seen them twice now – once 6ft away on a big green sofa in our village pub – ‘best gig of my life’… :o)

No, that’s a new group on me. The little sample I have taken sounds fantastic though.

Thoroughly nice chap too – they played at our village pub in Feb and chatted after, then saw them at a packed venue in Soton last week. Lost the tickets I’d bought in July and tweeted him – he remembered me and put us on the guest list! :o)
