It has been varied month of church experience so far. As well as St Clement’s (evangelical and gently charismatic Anglican), which has been my home in Oxford, I’ve also been at my previous haunts of Hither Green Baptist Church (multicultural congregational evangelicalism) and this morning, participating in the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity as a visiting delegate, at St Mary’s and St John’s on Cowley Road (high Anglican with all the bells and smells). Today, I particularly loved the silent pause after the sermon and the sunlight highlighting the incense smoke and capturing the holy mystery of a gathered service.
We are though, as the communion service puts it, all one body because we share in one bread. Great is the mystery — and beauty — of Christian faith.
