With the weather turning just a bit chillier, we couldn’t resist having a small log fire tonight. Some paper, card, kindling and sticks, along with a couple of smallish logs seem to have been enough for a decent blaze so we might have enough supplies to see us through a few months. On the other hand, if we are starting in August then it’s a mighty long way until next summer!
What I do need to pay more attention to is bringing in a graduated collection of wood and not jumping up the grades too quickly. I had to restoke a couple of times tonight because I think I put bigger bits on too quickly. I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it over time but it was a reminder that setting a controlled fire is more than just dropping a match on some wood.
