I ended up not cycling to work yesterday morning as pumping the front tyre had the opposite effect from what I intended and left it completely flat. On examination, it was an issue I’ve seen before, where the valve has come unseated from the inner tube probably, in part, due to the forces created during trying to pump it up. Unfortunately that’s not so easy to fix with a patch.
After work I picked up a couple of spare tubes and a track pump. Once fitted (and I’d spent some time figuring out how the connector worked) I was amazed to find how effortlessly it inflated the tyre compared to a handpump. Two or three strokes and it the tyre was rock hard. Hopefully that will still be the case when I go down and check on it in a minute!
