Every year the RSPB runs a survey called the Big Garden Birdwatch and this is the weekend. Jane did the watching for us this morning, spending an hour keeping her eyes peeled and noting the highest number reached of any particular species.
The aim is to build a picture of fluctuations in garden bird populations across the UK so it isn’t a competition to get large numbers or particularly exciting finds. That said, I think we’re not alone in topping up our feeders in preparation. While Jane was out doing that she spotted two goldcrests, which aren’t common visitors to our garden, so that marked the start of our count! If you’re reading this, goldcrests, you’re welcome to come back as often as you want!
