When I was waiting for the postgraduate module I’m currently studying with the Open University to start (TU812 Managing Systemic Change) I had the pleasant surprise of receiving a box of physical study materials – books and study guides. I have to confess that I haven’t used them much, preferring to read and mark digital copies using the Mendeley software, but they look good on the shelf.
Today I was reminded that they are functional as well as decorative. I was visiting in-laws with Jane and could take one of the course books with me. When everyone else popped out to visit a local garden in the afternoon, I stayed in and managed a useful reading session. I could have done this using some kind of electronic device but a real dead-tree edition was ideal, certainly for the bulk reading that was my mission this afternoon.
