Today I have been experimenting with the idea of a standing desk, where you set your computer workstation up so that you stand rather than sit to work on it. It is a concept which has frequently surfaced on various tech and lifestyle blogs I have read in the last couple of years and proponents argue that it is much healthier for you compared to the more sedentary approach of slouching in a chair all day.
I have to admit that I am not entirely convinced. There are plenty of people who do jobs involving standing all day who aren’t paradigms of good health and my own observation is that I end up shifting position a lot. I haven’t even done a lot of computing tasks today and I am not sure I would survive a heavy coding day without sitting down! However, I might persist a little longer as, if I do become used to it it would save me some space in my set up at home (where I don’t want to be spending all day in front of a computer anyway and I can twist about and walk around without disturbing co-workers).
Anyway, enough computing for one day. Time for a light dinner and then down to the Isis for tonight’s gig… on stand-up bass!
