Amaryllis (Hippeastrum puniceum) in flower

Hippeastrum puniceum

Today’s bloomer is our Amaryllis. We planted the bulb last month and have watched it growing taller and taller. It must have put on about 1cm a day which is not fast enough to observe the motion of growing but sufficient that the stem was appreciably longer each morning. Over the last week or so buds have been forming at the top and today it is in resplendent bloom.
