Yesterday I started reading The Mechanism of the Mind by Edward de Bono. When I had picked it up from the library last week I thought it was a new book but it turns out to only be a new edition of a work originally issued in 1969. I don’t think I would have realised that though without the publishing information – it is only with hindsight that it becomes clear he misses references to things like the Internet.
However, de Bono does write about computers. One sentence stood out to me:
It will be a sinister day when computers start to laugh, because that will mean they are capable of a lot of other things as well. (p18)
Intriguing! I think I will be listening more closely today to the CPUs that surround my daily life just in case I pick up hints that they are amused!
