My new office is quite close to the Ashmolean Museum and I’ve taken a couple of lunchtime trips down there recently. Yesterday was particularly exciting for me because I discovered an extra area that I don’t think I’d seen before, full of 19th and 20th century art. It is more or less above the music gallery, which I am more familiar with, and I think I will be taking quite a few trips back.
In one direction, I wandered past work from the Pre-Raphaelites and into early 20th century representational art. Going back in the other, I spotted Impressionists, like Pissarro (Camille et Lucien), and then a room with pieces by major 20th century figures like Picasso and Hepworth. Plenty to go back and study.
