One of my presents this year was a fantastic boardgame called Azul. You play the game by collecting (drafting) sets of coloured tiles and thus winning points. It creates lots to think about but also looks beautiful.
Furthermore, it feels beautiful. Each variety of tile is represented by a set of chunky plastic pieces which are pulled from the included bag. In some ways, it is really quite a simple set up, with a lot less messing around to set up than many other games but I rate it as an excellent piece of design as well as an excellent game.
