Merry Christmas! My selected image to share with you to celebrate the season is the one above, rotated and cropped from of the 30 watercolour paintings I created for an art project in June this year. I was also trying to squeeze in a craft activity for a video for the toddlers’ group at church when I painted this so, although you can’t really see it in this version, it is based on patterns made by overlaid feet.
What an earth has it got to do with Christmas? Imagine that moment when the shepherds have just rubbed their eyes after the angelic host has departed before they set off to find the new-born king laid in an animal feeding trough (or manger). After images of glory, the phosphenes activated by pressure on the eye and just starting to look in the direction of Bethlehem (more traditional scenes are distantly reminiscent of this image).
Or you can just enjoy the bright colours and allow yourself a little bit of optimism for the year ahead. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
