I’m working on a piece of music for Palm Sunday. It is the widely known hymn Ride On, Ride On in Majesty and I’m more or less using the common WINCHESTER NEW setting. However, it is going to be accompanied by pictures provided by members of the Christian Motorcyclists Association and so I am taking the risk of throttling it up just a little.
For one thing, I’m going with a guitar-based sound rather than making it keyboard led. In turn, that requires exercising a bit of judicious re-arrangement over the chords. The other thing, which came to me towards the end of the session, was a little bit of slap bass in the short bridging bars I’ve put between each verse. Since I’ve got pretty new strings on, they’ve still got the zing which makes the slap style much easier to pull off.
No – you can’t hear it yet. I’ve still got more work to do, such as replacing the scratch vocal including the bit where I sing the intended guitar solo. It should be a lot of fun and hopefully encourage the congregation in appropriately joyful singing.
