I know, what a radical notion. However, because of the global pandemic, we’ve been limiting the amount of music in services so we haven’t had a lot of hymns going on. Today was a memorial service for a much-loved member of the congregation and so we had a service which had five classic hymns packed into it.
Normally, we field a worship band and do more contemporary songs in the main but today it was out with the organ and a small (four piece) choir. The congregation were asked not to belt out the hymns but humming or quiet singing is now reasonable, especially for those willing to keep their masks on. All in all, it was a great service and for me, as leader of the mini-choir, a wonderful chance to open my pipes and sing God’s praise with those time-proven words.
