We drove Jane’s mum home this afternoon and I thought traffic was a bit slow on the bottom part of the M1 and round the M25. Coming back it was still slow with weight of traffic but then I spotted the opposite carriageway was empty. That’s rarely a good sign and, sure enough, the road was blocked off by emergency vehicles due to some sort of accident with a huge tailback behind it.
If we’d set off a little later, it could have been us on that side, jammed up and not moving for hours. Worse still, it could have been us at the point of the incident. It is a reminder not to be too impatient when traffic is at least moving, to be thankful for travels successfully completed and not to get too addicted to making such trips in the first place.
