Heavy metal guitar

For this afternoon’s remembrance event, I took my heavy metal guitar… no, not the electric one with the pointy headstock but the steel-bodied resonator. With its built in cone, it is the loudest acoustic guitar I own and it did the job well, enough to support the crowd singing Abide With Me.

I’d pondered taking the double bass but wasn’t quite sure about leading on that, trying to get a good volume, keeping in tune and singing at the same time. I’ve risked it before but, at a solemn event rather than a relaxed singaround, I didn’t want to be too incautious. Anyway, a shiny silver guitar matched nicely with Alf’s shiny silver trumpet, on which he played The Last Post, Reveille and supported the voices on the hymn.
