Colours of Hope

Every week I put together an online service for church and it needs a thumbnail image to accompany it. I like to be creative but I can’t afford to mess around for too long, so I work with a standard pattern – a photo of the church with the name and date overlaid and then some kind of additional graphic blended in to make it distinctive. If you look at the services playlist, you can see how I tried a few different ideas before settling on the pattern and that I’m now approaching 100 variations with another one added each week – certainly a good creative exercise!

The image above is one I created to use as an overlay for the service I filmed this morning. It is based on a picture I took at RHS Rosemoor in 2007 (Narcissi #3). Does it remind you that today is St David’s day (BTW, dydd dewi dewi hapus)? Does it remind you of the Ukrainian national flag, as a massive column of Russian troops rumbles towards Kyiv and brave Ukranians seek to defend their land?

Both of those are wrapped up in this composite image and also, in the green shoots, a prayer of hope. Evil is being done but God will not abandon those who call on his son, Jesus, as their saviour even though our present road may be marked with suffering and some may be gathered too him before the final vindication is revealed. Peace be on that land and it’s people and on those who bravely stand in protest on Russian streets.
