Early Christmas Dinner

Dinner today was roast turkey with all of the trimmings. Well, some of the trimmings at least. We didn’t go the whole hog (no pigs in blankets) but we did have roast carrots, parsnips, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy from the turkey juices and brussels sprouts.

Why? I think it was mainly that Jane made some mince pies earlier this week, using up most of the mincemeat left over from Christmas, we still had a Christmas pudding in the cupboard (bought in case COVID-19 meant we needed a plan B last December) and we’d seen that supermarkets still had frozen turkeys. Turkeys are big and expensive birds but, when you divide the cost by the number of portions you get out, it becomes a lot more reasonable and we’ve recently also made sure we’ve used up some things that were lingering in the freezer.

Oh, and when it came to it, we couldn’t face the idea of cooking and eating the pudding! Still, that might come as we enjoy left over turkey for the next couple of days and portions we’ve frozen over the next two or three months!
